Sofia’s Story – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

by | Aug 30, 2022 | Personal Stories - Blogs | 0 comments

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and 10 year old Sofia wants to share her story with you.

In 2013, at just 6 months old, Sofia was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour, the childhood form of kidney cancer, and we were pleased to be able to support her and her family through one of our patient support grants. We were able to provide Sofia with a Reflux Wedge to prevent reflux and sickness and a musical therapy swing to keep her in a comfortable, upright position throughout the day.

Brave Sofia underwent surgery and received intense treatment for 5 years but in 2019, to the delight of her family and everyone, Sofia got to ring the ‘End of Treatment Bell’.

Now, at 10 years of age, Sofia is enjoying life and her childhood to the full and she wanted to make this video to say thank you.

Not all Wilms’ Tumours have a happy ending such as Sofia’s and we work hard to support all those diagnosed with kidney cancer at all ages. Through your generosity, your donations will enable us to provide support to children and adults diagnosed with kidney cancer across the UK and invest in research into early diagnosis and better treatments.

Thank you.
