Walk For A Cure 2017

Kidney Cancer UK and sister charity, Kidney Cancer Scotland, are delighted to invite you to take a Walk For A Cure between 8th to 31st October 2017 to help raise funds for research and to support kidney cancer patients, carers and their families across the UK.

In October of 2010 kidney cancer patient and fundraiser Adrian ‘Ade’ Cure was guest speaker at our President’s Dinner at the House of Lords. He was a proud, strong, determined man and raised over £30,000 for kidney cancer, most of which was donated to the Kidney Cancer UK, before he died of kidney cancer in March 2011 after a four-year fight.

He had such a positive attitude to life that his brother-in-law Andy Coleman and Jane (Ade’s wife) organised ‘Walk for A. Cure’ event in Ade’s memory, and were determined to smash the £10,000 target set for fundraising.

The walk began on Saturday 27 August 2011, from Gas Street Basin in Birmingham, and many blisters were suffered walking 144.5 miles along the Grand Union Canal finishing on Saturday 3 September in Little Venice, London. They managed to raise over £18,000 in support of the kidney cancer community.

Now inspired by Ade’s memory, we are continuing on and are asking the UK to Walk For A Cure.

You can walk with a friend, start a walking group or if you are a rambling group, create an event for the weekend! No matter how many of you there are or how long or short you walk, you will be happy to know you were part of Walk for A Cure.

Leading ‘Walk For A Cure’ are The Anchor Legacy in Scotland who will be walking the 96 miles of The West Highland Way.in memory of Stuart Scott who lost his fight with kidney cancer in 2016. The world famous walk runs from Glasgow to Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis and will be lead by his daughter, Gail and a team of 15 walkers, supported by Stuarts wife, Lynda and other daughter Leigh. They are hoping to complete the walk in three days and you can support them on their JustGiving page HERE. Watch their video below.
