Nick Turkentine retires as Chief Operating Officer

On Tuesday 28th February, Nick Turkentine retires from his position as Chief Operating Officer of Kidney Cancer UK and its sister charity Kidney Cancer Scotland.

Nick formed the James Whale MBE Fund for Kidney Cancer in 2006 with broadcaster James Whale MBE, to provide help and support services for kidney cancer patients free of charge. In 2015, this became Kidney Cancer UK with Nick as its Chief Operating Officer.

Under Nick, Kidney Cancer UK has expanded its services including a support line, counselling, and information for patients, and training in kidney cancer for health professionals. More recently the charity has become an advocate on behalf of patients leading to a commitment from NHS England for the development of the first ever national clinical guideline in this country on kidney cancer.

The Charity will continue to benefit from Nick’s experience and expertise. He will still play an important role as the Charity continues to move forwards. Nick will become a consultant to Kidney Cancer UK, focusing on external relationships and major fundraising programmes.

The Chair of the Board of Trustees, Berkeley Greenwood, paid tribute to Nick’s service to the charity and to kidney cancer patients throughout the UK. He said: “On behalf of kidney cancer patients and their families throughout the country, the Trustees and I would like to express our sincere thanks to Nick for his dedication and commitment over many years devoted to helping and improving the lives of people with kidney cancer.”

Kidney Cancer UK will make a further announcement regarding a new Chief Executive in due course.
