Kidney Health

JWF logo
Following recent study by NHS alerting that 1,000 hospital patients are dying needlessly each month from dehydration and poor care by doctors and nurses, Kidney Cancer UK would like to highlight the role of kidneys which are vital to the overall health. It is important to look after them. Follow our suggestions to ensure your kidney health.

Staying hydrated will help your kidneys function properly. Your urine should be straw-coloured or paler. If it’s any darker that’s a sign of dehydration.
Eat healthily
A balanced diet ensures you get all the minerals and vitamins your body needs. Speak to your GP or nurse about what they recommend for you.
Stop Smoking
Smoking affect your kidney health by raising your blood pressure. Therefore if you smoke, please seek your GP’s advise on how to give up.
Watch the blood pressure
Have your blood pressure checked regularly. Raised blood pressure has no symptoms, but it can increase your risk of kidney problems. If this pressure is too high it puts a strain on your arteries and your heart, which makes it more likely that you will suffer a heart attack, a stroke or kidney disease.

Being too heavy raises your blood pressure, which is bad for your kidneys. Try to keep yourself at a healthy weight by keeping active several time a week.
