Kidney Cancer UK and Kidney Cancer Scotland have launched the UK’s first dedicated Kidney Cancer Counselling Service available *free across the UK.
The service is now available to patients, carers and close family affected by kidney cancer through appointment only and is conducted by a qualified counsellor, employed by the charity within its Kidney Cancer UK Health Professionals team, one-to-one over the telephone.
Counselling offered is a therapeutic, supportive and safe space for clients to feel able to talk confidentially about any issues they are experiencing.
Lucy Willingale, Kidney Cancer UK Health Professional, Lead, said: “We are very proud to announce the addition of a counsellor to our Health Professional’s team. The benefits this will bring to patients, and those close to them touched by kidney cancer, will be enormous. As hard as the NHS works, the effect of reduce funding means CNS’s, Consultants and the support teams are unable to spend as much time helping patients by listening as they would like to. Though a grant from The Anchor Legacy, we can now offer this unique service and are proud to do so.”
Gail Robertson from The Anchor Legacy who funded this vital service, added “We are very proud and honoured to be working with Kidney Cancer UK and Scotland by providing the initial grant to launch the Counselling Service. Along with my mum and sister, I founded Anchor Legacy in memory of my dad Stuart Scott who we tragically lost to Kidney Cancer in 2016. He would be very proud of his girls and all they achieved and to have his name attached to this necessary service for patients and their families, what a legacy to leave. We have raised funds through amazing support when we walked the West Highland Way as part of the charities annual Walk for A Cure event , and a Gala Ball in dad’s memory. The Anchor Legacy will continue to fundraise in the future to support this brilliant service.”
