James Whale MBE Fund changing its name to Kidney Cancer UK

by | Feb 1, 2016 | Kidney Cancer UK News

We are pleased to announce, on Kidney Cancer Awareness Day, that James Whale MBE Fund for Kidney Cancer will be changing its name to Kidney Cancer UK on 7 February 2016. This is following the merger of Kidney Cancer UK into the Fund late 2015.

We are delighted to welcome Kidney Cancer UK’s supporters and to share this news with supporters of the Fund and are looking forward to developing the outstanding work already carried out by both charities. We will continue to provide patients, carers and families touched by kidney cancer (the eighth most common cancer in the UK) with a focused and streamlined charity under the banner of Kidney Cancer UK.
For many years, each charity has helped many thousands of patients through support, information, grants and free Patient Carelines. They have presented informative information packs, patient days, patient surveys; filmed a range of informative support videos and picked up the mantle to fight against injustices and directives detrimental to kidney cancer sufferers across the UK. This coming together of the two charities will combine the talent pool and further strengthen their voice in the fight against, and raising the awareness of, kidney cancer across the UK.
James Whale MBE, who will be Chairman of Kidney Cancer UK, said; “It is fitting that in its tenth anniversary year the charity I started in 2006, along with Nick Turkentine (CEO) out of frustration and disappointment at the lack of support for those affected by kidney cancer, is today the leader in its field. This was following my own kidney cancer diagnosis and its subsequent removal”.
He continued; “I want to welcome Kidney Cancer UK supporters and emphasis how much we look forward to working together with them. Renaming as Kidney Cancer UK will enable the charity to go from strength-to-strength and build on the solid foundations laid individually by the James Whale MBE Fund for Kidney Cancer and Kidney Cancer UK through their brilliant and dedicated work. As we move forward together as one, we will create a stronger, more powerful voice to help, support and represent kidney cancer patients across the whole of the UK. This is everything I hoped for when I started the charity and could not be more delighted.”
A full press release will be issued shortly.
